Italy’s scorer fails against Germany

Italy reports a painful failure in front of the National League duel against the DFB selection. Coach Luciano Spalletti indicates how he wants to compensate for it.
Italy has to do without striker Mateo Retegui in the National League duels with Germany. The Atalanta Bergamo attacker fails because of a thigh injury and has already left the team quarters. The Italian association announced this one day before the first leg in Milan (8:45 p.m./ARD and in the T-Online live ticker).
Retegui is currently the most accurate player in Serie A with 22 goals in 27 league games and was planned as a storm tip in the team of coach Luciano Spalletti. In its place, Moise Kean from AC Florence should now start. “I expect an exchange of blows, and that fits Kean well,” said Spalletti. With 15 goals, Kean is the second best Italian scorer of the league.
Spalletti initially decided against nomination and wants to check after the first leg whether he will bring another attacker to the team.
The 66-year-old does not see the failures on both sides-including Kai Havertz and Florian Wirtz in the German team. “I am convinced that we will get a nice game. Both teams will try to play with an open visor,” said Spalletti.
Even wing players Andrea Cambiaso could only be ready for use after a light injury in Dortmund.
Spalletti announced that his team would play an intensive pressing against the fast and technically strong Germans. “We must not give you the opportunity to have an open field in front of you,” emphasized the coach.
Defender Riccardo Calafiori referred to the special importance of the duel. “This is never just a game like any other,” said the Arsenal professional.
