A Bulgarian first division team holds a minute’s silence in honor of a former. But it is not dead at all. Family and acquaintances reacted disturbed.
The club leadership of the Bulgarian first division club Arda Kardschali apologized after a minute’s silence. Before the game on Sunday against Lewski Sofia, the club had thought in the stadium of the former player Petko Gantschew, who had supposedly died. Both teams set themselves up near the middle circle before the league game and bowed in honor of Gantschew. Later it turned out that the club’s former player is still alive.
Even before Edem of the game, Arda Kardschali announced on his Facebook page that they had received false information about the death of Gantschew. “The management of the PFC Arda would like to apologize to the former ARDA player Petko Gantschew and his relatives because the club received incorrect information about his death,” wrote the club. “We wish Petko Gantschew many years of good health and a lot of fun in Arda’s success.” The game against Lewski Sofia ended 1-1.
The curious campaign was a shock for Gantschew and his family. The Bulgarian newspaper “Blitz” learned from the former athlete that his wife received him crying at home. “She shouted: ‘Petko, Petko, you announced on TV that you died!’ She explained to me that she had called her and that she was told what was said during the game. ” Two friends had also seen the game – one even in the stadium. They too would have been very worried, said Gantschev. “If you knew how many people called us-relatives, friends, acquaintances and unknown …”, he said “Blitz”.
Gantschew lives with his wife and family in southern Bulgaria. According to his own statements, he scored 120 goals for Arda Kardschali. He does not want to take legal action against his ex-club.
