The German Darts Youngster Niko Springer is in outstanding form. The “Meenzer Bub” beat the Players Championship number 7 World Cup finalist Michael van Gerwen and caused a sensation.
Darts coup in Hildesheim! Niko Springer switched off superstar Michael van Gerwen at the seventh players championship. The German defeated MVG 6: 3 in the first round.
The Dutch came up with a disappointing average of 89.91 points – too little to survive against Springer.
Springer skin van Gerwen out
The tour rookie came to an average of 88.94 and sank 35.3 percent of the throws. Springer then defeated William Borland and Cam Crabtree. It was only in the round of 16 that Springer ended in Hildesheim. He lost 4: 6 against the Dutch Dirk van Duijvenbode.
Springer underlined with his performance that he is currently the strongest German darts player. Reaching the round of 16 was the best performance for him at a Players championship tournament.
Other German starters in Hildesheim were Gabriel Clemens, Martin Schindler and Max Hopp. The latter came into the third round. For Schindler and Clemens, it was already over after the second round.
Strong appearance against Luke Littler
Springer had already sniffed a sensation last week.
At the fifth Players championship tournament of the year in Leicester, he only had to give up world champion Luke Littler with 5: 6 in the first round in the decider. Springer played a world-class average of 105.25. Littler, on the other hand, held 102.02 points per recording.
Springer recently wrote headlines at the UK Open. The “Meenzer Bub” played 115.92 points on average in the 6-2 win against Norwegian Cor Dekker and thus ensured a German TV, stage and major record. Now the flying flight continues for the time being.
