The Borelle walk has its origins in an old Celtic use in which the arrival of spring was ushered. In Dranouter this tradition was picked up again in 1974 and it has grown into a moment of being together. “It’s the time to meet up with friends and catch up during the walk,” says Stijn Vandercruysse. “That is the Dranouter mentality: not too much show, just coming out, chat and drink a beer.”
With the party committee in the lead, the walkers traveled through the fields and along rural roads. Despite the cold Noorderwind, the atmosphere was good. “The warmth, done with freezing. You are looking forward to Borelle,” says participant Koen de Cap. “We make it a party every year, a little one. And yes, that includes a beer.”
