Mick Schumacher has not yet given up hope of returning to Formula 1. In the interview, Uncle Ralf Schumacher commented on speculation about a possible F1 return with the new team Cadillac.

For a few days now, it has been officially clear that in 2026 another team will enter Formula 1 with Cadillac.

This step is a right decision for Ralf Schumacher. “I think it is important that another team is added. First another manufacturer who brings Formula 1 something,” he said in an exclusive interview with RTL/NTV and Sport.de.

In view of three races and the awareness of the racing series in the United States, the fact that an American manufacturer is added is a “great thing”. There are also “two seats more for young talents or drivers who get one more option,” said the former F1 pilot. So a “win-win” situation.

Ralf Schumacher thinks Cadillac entry is good

Now you still have to wait and see how the team is really put together. “Who is building all of this? The Ferrari engine is good. You have made a good purchase with that, I think. And from it it should work relatively well. I think you are very well positioned,” said Schumacher.

Two new seats in the new team-would that be a Formula 1 option for nephew Mick Schumacher?

“I just read it myself. I mean: he has a certain experience that he has,” said Schumacher about this question. “And if you build a team from zero. I can imagine that an American driver is coming. I have to honestly say what I’ve seen so far, also of the one who is up for discussion: That was so Lala. So you should see that you have a strong next to it to drive a development,” the 49-year-old continued.

“So I would not necessarily put a rookie off if I now think of the development of the team and the car.”

Mick an option for Cadillac?

Cadillac’s team supervisory board Mario Andretti had emphasized at the end of last year that Schumacher was also on a list of potential drivers of the newcomer, the more the rumors cooked again that the German could get a chance for a cockpit – in addition to the American Colton Herta.

Formula 1 world champion Mika Häkkinen (1998, 1999) had recently encouraged Mick Schumacher. Among other things, the Finn had said that the “door is still open” was for Schumacher that he “only had to talk to the right people” and with his “experience from different racing classes” has many “positive factors”.

Mick Schumacher had perceived these statements with benevolence. “It is of course nice to hear something like that. Mika knows very much,” said Schumacher at “Speedweek.com” about the words of the Finn.

Formula 1: Mick Schumacher wants to drop by

“As I have already said in various interviews, I have the feeling that I also have the stuff for Formula 1. We have to see what happens, the year is still long and the goal is to be returned in 2026,” the 25-year-old pretended and added: “What exactly happens.”

Formula 1 still has – even without an active position – further in view. The Grands Prix anyway, but: “If it fits in time, I will definitely see the training and qualifying.” The reason: “I have to stay up to date.”

Schumacher drives Alpine’s WEC team in 2026. There he is predicted a successful season.
