According to residents, there are not enough parking spaces in the street, which is why they have been parking on the green strips in front of the door for years. The municipality tolerates that. After years of wear, the parking spaces have since changed to sand pits. “I sometimes had that I hardly got out of it by car, because my tires were going to slip through the mud,” says Van den Berg.

Because residents have been paying for parking in the street since July 2024, they want the municipality to tackle the parking spaces. “I have nothing against paid parking, but if you enter it, you also have to make it possible for residents to be able to stand there properly,” says the local resident.

Residents lay down tiles themselves

Van den Berg and other local residents have approached the municipality several times. There was a temporary solution, but it only worsened the situation. “They poured black sand in September, but that didn’t solve anything. In fact, it only got worse,” says Van den Berg. The sand washed away because of the rain, which left even deeper pits.

Some local residents have laid tiles themselves to keep clean feet. But they drop due to the rain and do not offer a structural solution. The neighborhood still urges that.

Green or parking?

The municipality has announced that it will not take any structural measures for the time being. Later this year she wants to submit the choice to residents of the street: more green or structural parking spaces. If the majority of the street wants paved parking spaces, then the municipality promises to eventually realize and pay it.

Van den Berg is happy that the residents themselves get the choice, but she hopes that the municipality will look at the different parts of the elongated street. “I expect the municipality to cut the street in parts, so that the reaction of the residents of the different parts is also representative of the part where they live.”

In addition, Van den Berg disputes that according to the municipality there are enough parking spaces in the area. “I invite the municipality to come and see the number of cars and available parking spaces in the evening. Without the parking spaces between the trees, there are insufficient parking spaces in the area, “she notes.

For the time being, the parking situation remains unchanged and residents must struggle through the mud.
