The search for the ‘Campus for the future’ started in October 2024. Alkmaar was enthusiastic and presented a proposal to the KNVB. Under the leadership of alderman Christiaan Peetoom, Alkmaar had designated an area that was suitable for the construction of the complex.
“The choice to enter into dialogue with the three selected municipalities has been carefully taken,” writes the KNVB. “The submitted bidbooks have been thoroughly evaluated, with expert support from the independent consultancy firm Royal HaskoningDHV. In addition, all submitted municipalities have been given the opportunity to provide an additional oral explanation.”

According to the municipality of Alkmaar, Olympiapark in Alkmaar should have become the location. 25 hectares were available in Alkmaar-West along the N9. It is still unknown what will happen to that piece of land.
The KNVB Campus is the place where the Dutch national team and national youth teams train. Trainers are also trained at the location. The current campus in Zeist does not have the possibilities to expand, while the KNVB has the ambition to grow.
The KNVB will talk to the municipalities of Almere, Barendrecht/Rotterdam and Lelystad in the coming six months about the new location for the KNVB Campus.
