Hamburger SV has to look for a new president in summer. The HSV confirmed on Tuesday afternoon, which was previously unanimously reported. In the general meeting in June, incumbent Marcell Jansen will no longer compete. First the ex-international informed his family, then his presidium colleagues and the club committees and the HSV board.

“The six years as HSV president were very intense, I gave me a lot of fun and I am very grateful for that. This time in the Presidium-in particular through the remarkable use of Vice President Bernd Wehmeyer and Michael Papenfuß-was successful for the club and we will now use the coming months to June with full energy to further advance important HSV issues together with the members and the committees, ”Jansen is quoted in a club notification.

The 39-year-old now wants to devote himself to other projects. “For me, a phase of life begins in summer in which I want to drive my own professional future. So I decided not to run again and to communicate this clear step early. I now wish the HSV a president who brings new ideas to the club and who – just as I did it – take care of the interests of the members. I will always remain closely connected to the HSV and are now looking forward to hopefully many missions in our traditional team. ”

With a short interruption in 2021, Jansen has been president in the second division club since January 2019. But it has not been undisputed for some time. In 2023 he survived a request for no confidence at the general meeting and in January 2024 he put his post on the Supervisory Board in order to be able to “exercise” his role as President.

It is still unclear who could succeed Jansen. The current Vice President Michael Papenfuß is considered a candidate. The 70-year-old had already taken over Jansen’s supervisory board mandate in HSV AG after he left the control committee after long quarrels.
