Ebba Andersson stormed on Tuesday (04.03.2025) in the classic race over ten kilometers to World Cup gold.
As in the skiathlon, local hero Therese Johaug narrowly beat her (+1.3 seconds). Johaug, who had come back from the cross-country skier pension especially for the home World Cup, was disappointed at the finish about the further silver medal. “I’m really dissatisfied today”said Johaug later on ZDF.
The Norwegian started furiously, was carried from the stadium and on the route by the home audience, and on the first round she still provided best times. Only from kilometer seven did Andersson add a tooth and sat in front of Johaug. Bronze went to Swede Frida Karlsson (+12.1 seconds).
Hennig in seventh place
Katharina Hennig also showed a terrific race and ended up in seventh place (+29.9 seconds). The 28-year-old, who was repeatedly healthy in the past few weeks, set furiously on her first kilometer in her first World Cup race in Trondheim, but fell back on the second round.
“First of all, I’m super happy about seventh place”said Hennig after the race on ZDF: “I was very unsettled, especially the last few days, the season has not been 100 percent so far according to my ideas. I am simply glad to deliver such a good result when it comes to such a backdrop.”
The remaining DSV starters also showed a passable race. Pia Fink became eleventh, Katherine Sauerbrey came in 16th place.
Only Victoria Carl remained behind the expectations with her 14th place. In the ZDF microphone she said in a shaky voice: “The race was not one of my best.” You got at the beginning “very good” felt that she had to struggle with the deep traces. “These are just not my competitions”such a disappointed Carl.
Material races in Trondheim
As with the men at noon, dense snowflakes continued to snow-Scandinavian weather, as national coach Peter Schlickenrieder already found after the men’s race. And so there were two Swedes and two Norwegians who ended up in the top five.
The Scandinavians are familiar with the snowy conditions, their technicians are practiced in preparing skis for these conditions. But the German team also showed a good hand in the choice of material and wax. Hennig praised the technicians: “We had good material!”
