Protest trees in Tilburg should ensure a greener city

Small birch trees were planted on Saturday at various places in Tilburg. It was an Extinction Rebellion campaign. The action group wants the city to become greener and took matters into their own hands.

“They are trees with a message,” says the action group in the run-up to the municipal elections next Wednesday. “They are addressing the future council and aldermen to implement a better green policy.” That is, if it is up to the activists, a policy in which much more is planted than felled.

‘Drip on a glowing city’
‘Protest trees’ have been planted at, among others, the Schouwburg and the Municipal Office on Spoorlaan. Extinction Rebellion calls it “a drop in the glowing city”, but the group hopes this will provide a first step for more plantings.

The action in Tilburg fits in with a national day of action where attention was drawn to the environment with the municipal elections approaching. For example, in Eindhoven there was a ‘fashion show’ on the 18 Septemberplein and in Den Bosch political parties were measured against the ‘climate yardstick’.
