The lunar eclipse, also called eclips, takes place between 7:26 am and 8:33 am on Friday, March 14. The earth is then exactly between the sun and the moon, so that the light of the sun does not end up on the moon.
Blood moon above Zoetermeer
Is there no moon at all on March 14? Yes, but it looks slightly different that day. There is a bit of sunlight because of the earth’s atmosphere and that can still achieve the moon surface. This is particularly red light, so that a red glow comes over the moon. This phase is also popularly called blood moon and lasts about 67 minutes with this eclipse. The moon was completely darkened around 8 a.m.
Another lunar eclipse
You do not need a telescope to view this phenomenon, it can be seen with the naked eye. If there are no clouds that throw a spanner in the works of course. If this is the case, don’t worry! This year a full lunar eclipse is on the program on Sunday 7 September 2025.
