The four carnival associations that would celebrate Carnival at Café ‘t Uilennest on Koestraat in Tilburg found a new location at the last minute. After the sudden, forced closure on Wednesday, the associations held their hearts, but it worked anyway. CV de Kerkuilen, DB De Bloaskapel, VC De Bitterballen and VC, which two are running their carnival program this year at Café Bet Kolen on the Broekhovenseweg.
She fell raw on their roof, the forced closure by order of the mayor. When Mischa Donders, adjutant of CV de Kerkuilen, was told the news two days before the carnival, the courage sank in his shoes. Café ‘t Uilennest has been the home of his carnival association for many years. The association was founded at that location 53 years ago and has since been its home during carnival. But this year that will change: the café is seen as a clubhouse of the forbidden motorcycle club Satudarah and is therefore forced to be closed for the next six months.
Fortunately, the sentence ‘is now coming back’ at Mischa. An alternative has been found. His carnival association, together with the three other associations, is welcome in Café Bet Kolen. CV De Plekkers has offered to share the space, so that the associations can still run their carnival program.
“We received many emails from other associations.”
It is a different carnival than hoped, according to Mischa: “This will be the very first time we don’t celebrate at ‘t Uilennest, so we will still have to find our place.” Mischa and the other barn owls are very grateful to the Plekkers for their hospitality. They were also amazed by the many reactions: “You see how close the carnival world can be. After the news we received many emails from other associations that they have room for us,” says the adjutant.
Mischa often comes to the coal for billiards and knows the owner well. As a result, quickly contact was made at the last minute and a hurry was still gathered on Wednesday evening, but it is all round now. This year it will happen on the Broekhovenseweg. The room is still decorated on Thursday and the associations are completely in the starting blocks. “Yesterday the sentence was completely gone,” says Mischa. “But now it is starting to come. After a day of carnival, the feeling will probably be back.”
