For the first time, Marie Müller had been nominated for the national team last week. Then she injured herself in training – and that was serious.

Foreign defender Marie Müller has torn the front cruciate ligament in the right knee. This was announced by the German Football Association (DFB) on Wednesday. The 24-year-old, who suffered the injury in the training of the German national team, had already been operated on on Wednesday.

Müller had been nominated by national coach Christian Wück, after Sara Doorsoun and Kathrin Hendrich had two defensive players for the games in the Nations League against the Netherlands (2: 2) and Austria (4: 1). The U23 international from the US club Portland Thorns FC would have been in the A-selection before her debut. Now it will “fail an indefinite period,” said the DFB in its message.

Müller had gone through all youth departments of the German national team since the U15. In October she scored the first goal for the U23 reactivated after over twelve years. At the club level, Müller had played for SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga from 2017, for which she subsequently scored nine goals in 97 league games. In February 2024 they moved to Portland.
