According to biathlon expert Michael Rösch, the US-Newcomer Campbell Wright, born in New Zealand, has what it takes to become the new superstar of his sport.
“You can take him, put three or four people around him, accompany him for a year and you have a Netflix series,” said Rösch at “Eurosport” with a view of Campbell Wright, who at the title fights in Lenzerheide both in the sprint also won the silver medal in the persecution.
Rösch added: “He enlivens the biathlon very much, that’s such a cool guy. His interviews are awesome, everyone likes to spend time with him. And he speaks to a young audience, whom he also says: ‘You don’t have to go to skiing Alpine or a snowboard to be cool, you can also come to the biathlon. ‘”
Great also trusts Rösch to the French single world champion Éric Perrot. The 23-year-old brings “everything to win the yellow jersey at some point,” said the 2006 season Olympic champion.
Biathlon expert “really feels like” on the new stars
An important “fingering” for the future balance of power is the IBU Cup, the “second division” of the biathlon, as Rösch noted. He pointed out that both France’s shooting star Océane Michelon and mass start-up champion Endre Strömsheim from Norway have already won them. “Lou JeanMonnot and Vanessa Voigt were also successful there,” emphasized Rösch.
The 41-year-old enthused: “I really feel like the new faces, I would also take Tommaso Giacomel into this round and from a German perspective Selina Grotian and Julia Tannheimer.”
The top nation with biathlon men is still for Rösch, in his opinion it is France for women. “France is a bit more compact team, they also won four seasons in the World Cup for men, but when it came to it, the Norwegians were there and beat them. In this respect, this status quo is still standing.”
