The provincial landscape organization Prolander has made a clumsy error near Geelbroek. Workers have dug a meter -long deep ditch in a place where that was not allowed.
In the area around Geelbroek, Prolander is working on a wealthy project, but the place where it has now been dug is a bit outside. Local residents rang the bell when they suddenly saw a wide ditch lie close to their homes.
Project leader Johan de Boer Van Prolander admits that a mistake was made during the work along the Asserweg. According to him, it was not properly checked whether there was a permit to construct a ditch. It is not there.
“We have put the shovel in the ground too quickly,” says De Boer. “We bought this land at a fairly late moment and we have to build a waterway for that, but that would not have been easy.”
It is painful that the error occurs precisely in this project. For more than ten years, a group of farmers from the area opposed the watering. They fear that their crops cannot stand the extra water and that they can no longer use their land all year round. Eventually the landscape project started at the end of last year.
The work on the ditch has since been stopped and Prolander has to restore the error. “That means we have to dampen the ditch again, so we are going to do that,” says De Boer. Local residents have been informed about this according to the project manager.
Prolander does not yet know whether the ditch will eventually be dug out again. First, the landscape organization will finish the current wealth project. That is expected to take another month.
