Paris Saint-Germain has been supported vigorously from Qatar for almost one and a half decades. But now the partnership could be put to a test.
France’s top club and series master Paris Saint-Germain could threaten a fiasco. This reported several French media on Friday. The reason: Criminal investigations against PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi in the “Lagardère affair” about manipulation of votes on the board of the eponymous French media group. A subsidiary of the billion-dollar cataric state fund “Qater Sports Investments” (QSI) is involved in this, which in turn manages al-Khelaifi.
The 51-year-old is accused of using his position to buy votes in voting in 2018 and to receive more influence in corporate management, writes “Le Parisien”.
Al-Khelaifi decisively rejects the allegations. He explained that he had “no connection” to the case. Nevertheless, the PSG boss is now apparently officially investigated.
And this could also threaten the club: According to “RMC Sport”, Qatar is considering ending his commitment to PSG based on the investigation. In contrast, “Le Parisien” reports that the golf state is not planning a retreat.
QSI had entered the Paris Club in 2011 and has formed him with massive investments for a top European team since then. The largest coups were the transfers from Neymar (2017 for 222 million euros from FC Barcelona) and Lionel Messi (2021 free of charge from FC Barcelona). However, it was not enough for the longed -for great success in the Champions League – at ten French championships in 13 years.
