Victory for St. Paulis Schmidt & Japan
The 42nd edition of the AFC U20 Asian Cup started on Wednesday. At the tournament in China, four talents, who also have the German passport, take part for three different national teams. While the Syrian duo Saadaldin Al-Khleif (18, Wia Wiesbaden) and Monir Hassan (19, Borussia Lindenthal-Hohenlind) had to give up the record winner South Korea 1-2 at the start, Japan won with Nick Schmidt (17, FC St. Pauli) clearly 3-0 against Thailand.
For Jordan, Yousef Qashi (19, Wuppertaler SV) was against Saudi Arabia in the starting eleven, but had to accept a 0-1 defeat. Saudi Arabia provides the two most valuable players in the tournament with Talal Haji (17, 800,000 euros) and Farhah al-Shamrani (18, 650,000 euros). Curious: The second most places for a selection is the reserve team of the Spanish fourth division CD Calahorra – nine Qataris are currently playing there.
The four semi-finalists automatically qualify for the 2025 World Cup in Chile. All squad including the game reports are shown in the transfer market database: for the 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup.
