Wolfsburg even without Schult at the top

Even without goalkeeper Almuth Schult, who tested positive for Corona, VfL Wolfsburg jumped to the top of the table in the women’s Bundesliga. The runners-up easily won 5-1 (3-0) against newly promoted 1. FC Köln.

With 38 points, Wolfsburg are again ahead of defending champions Bayern Munich (37), both teams have played 15 games. Bayern can present again on Saturday in Hoffenheim.

Iceland international Sveindis Jane Jonsdottir put Wolfsburg on the road to victory with her first goals for VfL (21st/33rd). Tabea Waßmuth (37’/63′) and Jill Roord (90’+1′) followed suit, Eunice Beckmann (69′) marked the interim 1:4 for Cologne.

Olympic champion Schult did not travel to Cologne because of a positive corona finding. DFB captain Alexandra Popp, who celebrated her comeback last week after a compulsory break of more than ten months, was in the VfL starting eleven and was substituted after an hour.
