At the biathlon World Cup in Switzerland, Vanessa Voigt is missing after a longer training break. Teammate Selina Grotian feels with her.
The German start to the biathlon World Cup was a success. In the mixed relay, the German quartet won the bronze medal with Selina Grotian, Franziska Preuß, Philipp Nawrath and Justus Strelow. Germany last won a World Cup medal in the mixed competition six years ago.
On Friday it continues in Lenzerheide (Switzerland). Vanessa Voigt has to watch. The German biathlete is missing because she had to take a longer training break after a respiratory disease. Selina Grotian feels with the 27-year-old. “I’m also incredibly sorry for her because I know how much work she puts in, and when the body does not play along, that’s very sad for the athlete. Nobody likes what she is going through now,” said Grotian the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” (short: FAZ).
“I hope that you will get back on your feet quickly and that we will soon be able to survive the World Cups together,” she added.
Grotian and Voigt have a close relationship and spent the last summer together on vacation. “We get along well, are always honest, and if something bothers us, we say that too. Of course there were also one or the other disagreement, or you have been a bit annoyed,” said Grotian. The 20-year-old suffers especially with her teammate due to this friendship.
Voigts are missing her “brutal”. Nevertheless, Grotian showed on Wednesday that she could change the switch in his head. The performance in the mixed relay was right. On Friday, it should continue in the sprint over the 7.5 kilometers.
