Borussia Dortmund achieved his first victory under the new coach Niko Kovač. In the intermediate round of the premier class, BVB won thanks to an increase in performance in the second half.

Niko Kovač celebrated his first victory as a coach of Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday evening and can now dream of the round of 16 in the Champions League with his new team. After the 1-2 defeat against VfB Stuttgart in his debut in the Bundesliga last weekend, the Croatian cheered this time over a brilliant 3-0 away win (0-0) of BVB in the intermediate round of the premier class at Sporting Lisbon.

After a weak first half, it initially did not look like Dortmund would go back to the return leg in the coming week with a victory in his luggage. Sporting had the better chances, the BVB saved partly in the greatest need.

In the second section, however, the Kovač team showed a clear increase in performance and was rewarded for its great effort. At first, striker Serhou Guirassy headed for the lead after an hour (60th). National player Pascal Groß increased shortly afterwards to 2-0 (68th). Karim Adeyemi then put the lid on another DFB professional (82nd).

Kovač had given a “good result for the second leg” as the goal, but BVB had to take better opportunities than recently against VfB Stuttgart. The only drawback: It was only in the 38th minute that Jamie Gitten gave a first long -range shot after a solo, otherwise Sporting set more accents in a torn game. Lisbon had hardly any difficulties with the slow building of the Dortmund, and the Portuguese combined more safely.

Maximiliano Araujo (15th) hit the crossbar from a distance, and goalkeeper Gregor Kobel also had to intervene several times. The stubborn appearance of her team did not disturb the Dortmund fans, who had already sung in the mood in Lisbon’s capital in the afternoon sun in Lisbon’s capital. In the upper rank, they clapped and drummed the BVB forward.

It was only after the break that they got a pleasant one. The BVB now increased the risk and tried to disturb the home team in half. This had an effect: Karim Adeyemi (55.) failed after a strong attack on Rui Silva.

Dortmund was now superior, there was numerous standards, but kept stuck in Lisbon’s defense in the ends. Sporting replied with the substitution of his striker Gyöker, who came into play with the jubilation of the fans (59.). Immediately afterwards, Guirassy struck Julian Brandt after a cross. For the striker it was already the tenth goal in this Champions League season.

The goal gave the Dortmund noticeably security, resolutely defended their leadership and hardly let Gyökeres and Co. to develop. Instead, BVB increased: Groß Grätscht decidedly over the line for his first competitive goal for Dortmund.

With the lead in the back, Kovač’s team withdrew and cleverly managed the result. Adeyemi completed a lightning -clean counter in the final phase.
