Introduced by Samuel L. Jackson in an Uncle Sam outfit, swept Kendrick Lamar at the Super Bowl in New Orleans through his back catalog and tracks from his latest album “GNX” – and after several hints, finally brought part of his hits “Not Like Us” against Drake. He missed the word “pedophile”, but when he rapped the ambiguity of “A Minor”, the whole stadium raged. When Lamar came to the line “Say, Drake, I Heard you like ‘Em Young”, he looked directly into the camera and smiled after he had spoken out the name of his rival.
At first Kendrick Lamar Lamar only indicated the intro of “Not Like Us”, while Sza – who dropped some new songs during the game – accompanied him at “Luther” and “All The Stars”. “I want to perform your favorite song,” said Lamar, “but you know, you like to sue.” His set also included “squaBble up”, “Humble.”, “Dna.”, “Man at the Garden”, “Peekaboo “And” TV off “. Serena Williams had a guest appearance and danced during “Not Like Us” – a remarkable moment given the rumors that she and drake were once a few. Producer DJ Mustard appeared with a football during “TV off”. While “Humble.” Lamar’s completely black crew formed from dancers, dressed in red, white and blue, into a human US flag.
The performance was accompanied by dancers who rose from a real Buick Gnx that was parked on stage – a crowning moment for Kendrick in an outstanding year. His verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That” had sparked the fierce feud with Drake, who culminated in his five songs comprehensive disassembly of the Canadian rapper – crowned by “Not Like Us”. The HIT produced by DJ Mustard set up numerous Spotify records, took place on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks and dominated record-breaking 21 weeks the hot rap songs charts.
The success of the song played a role in the decision of Jay-Z and Roc Nation to choose Lamar for the coveted appearance. Roc-nation-CEO Desiree Perez recently told Nola.com: “Kendrick is exactly the right one for this moment”, and added: “He had an incredible year and deserves attention.”
Kendrick Lamar: alluding to Lil Wayne
Perez also revealed that Lil Wayne, who comes from New Orleans, was also considered for the half -time show. Shortly after the announcement, Wayne showed “broken” because he was not selected – whereupon Kendrick rapped on “Wacced Out Murals” by Gnx: “Used to bump Tha carter III, I hero my rollie chain Proud / irony, i think my hard Work Let Lil Wayne Down. ”Wayne apparently reacted to X:“ I Shall Destroy If Disturbed ”, but the two clarified the matter and Wayne finally encouraged Lamar with the words:“ Kill it. ”
Last week, “Not Like Us” cleared the Grammys and was awarded five prizes-including Record of the Year and Song of the Year, making it the most award-winning rap song in the history of the award ceremony. Fans can look forward to experiencing “Not Like Us” and other songs from the Super Bowl set on Lamars Grand National Tour with SZA.
