After the golden kick-off by Max Langenhan and Julia Taubitz (Friedrichroda/Oberwiesenthal), the German double-seater medals at the racing toilet World Cup in the Canadian Whistler also cleared.
On the night of Saturday (08/08/2025) Hannes Orlamünder/Paul Gubitz tobogganed her first world championship title. The Thuringians won in front of the Letten Martins Bots and Roberts Plume and their teammates Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt, who had become world champions in 2013.
Record world champion Toni Eggert did not get the podium in his comeback season with World Cup debutant Florian Müller.
First World Cup victory now world champion
After three home World Cups in the past four years (2021 Königssee, 2023 Oberhof and 2024 Altenberg), the Germans also show their class overseas. In the “Whistler Sliding Center”, Orlamünder/Gubitz in particular presented themselves to the point in top shape and delivered best time in both runs.
The two young Germans recently celebrated their first World Cup victory in Oberhof. Home advantage could say skeptics. In Lake Placid, Orlamünder/Gubitz now impressively showed that there is a pink future in front of them.
After the best time in the first run, the two nerve strength proved and not only kept Wendl/Arlt (RC Berchtesgaden/WSV Königssee) in chess. The Bayern Express – second after the first run – actually wanted to start the attack on gold, but did not shine “green” at the finish line. Wendl/Arlt could not crack the time of the Letten Bots/Plume and first lined up in second place.

Only Orlamünder/Gubitz were still at the top, met the line perfectly and cheered at the finish line over their first gold medal.
Eggert/Müller (WSV Oberhof/WSC Erzgebirge Oberwiesenthal) were in seventh place at half -time, but after a strong second round there was still fifth place.
Women’s doubles: Germans on a podium course
There could be other German medals at night. Dajana Eitberger/Magdalena Matschina and Jessica Degenhardt/Cheyenne Rosenthal are on the podium after the first round, only the Austrian Dream team Selina Egle and Lara Kipp was faster. However, the distances are low – and gold for the two German sledges are still possible.
