Bedroom synth pop, which echoes from the walls of the adolescent echo chamber.
Oklou – pronounced: “Ok, Lou” – is the personified hype who does not want to dab down. For several years now, the French woman has been gathering an incredibly submissive fan crowd with funny head cover, which consumes herself after her minimalist bedroom synth pop.
If you hear her debut album Choke Enough, you understand why: Marylou Mantiel can mix in catchiness and emotionality like hardly any other contemporary artist and present yourself strangely and vulnerably. The latter succeeds in having to act on behavior such as “Want to Wanna Come Back” or “Blade Bird”, which suddenly explode through the force of a digital orchestra.
“Thank you for recording” is possibly the song of the album that sounds a little too much of the “Firefies” in his radical harmlessness after OWL City’s one hit. “Harvest Sky”, on the other hand, comes up with a techno beat mixed into the background, which cups Echo Chamber in the walls of this album.
