A beer in the pub today costs quite a bit. Tyn van London and Senne Taks from Breda are even so busy that they have written a carnival song about it: ‘Beer is far too expensive’. “The Pilske that drags us through study hours, festivals, coffee breaks and pub nights now costs us the main prize.”
A while ago the two friends gathered an afternoon to make a carnival song. “We were brainstorming about the subject. At least it had to have something to do with a social problem,” says Senne.
Long thinking was not necessary, because the problem was found fairly quickly. The musicians regularly come to the city to drink a beer and have seen prices rising considerably in recent years. “And suddenly a kind of melody came there and then the text was added immediately.”
“But we wanted to see if we could pick it up a little wider.”
“We are very proud of it,” says Senne about the end result. The song with video clip is on YouTube and has already been listened to and viewed several thousand times. “But we wanted to see if we could pick it up a little wider.”
The pair is one petition started. The purpose of this is to arrange a maximum price for a beer. “We hope that we will get enough support and that the House of Representatives will pick it up. Who knows, something will change,” he says about the comic, but also serious initiative.

A few days after the start of the petition, the counter is already past 5000 signatures. At 40,000 the subject as a citizens’ initiative is on the agenda of the Lower House. “Now that it is getting more and more serious, I feel slight pressure,” says Senne with a wink.
“We want to see what we can get out of it,” he adds. “The fact that there is a lot of attention for it shows that it is a problem that people recognize. We really want to see if we can do something about it.”
“That would be 30 euros per bottle.”
Every week the gentlemen always want to go one step further. “This is how we take to the streets on Saturday. We want people to draw the petition there physically,” he says about the future of the playful action.
The gentlemen have already calculated how the liquid gold can be cheaper. “Normal beer can go back to 2.50 euros. The only thing that would be needed is a tax on spa red and alcohol -free beer of a few percent. That would then be 30 euros per bottle.”
