The Van Fleur Arends (21) family from Hilvarenbeek arrived in France after their daughter was killed there during skiing on Sunday. “It is not possible to do this drama for the family,” says George Arends, the uncle of Fleur Monday from France.

Fleur left on Saturday with a group of sixty students from the University of Tilburg for a skiing holiday in Val Thorens. Fleur studied law and was also active as a volunteer at the football club in Hilvarenbeek. “The accident happened on the first day that they all went skiing,” says George.

According to her uncle, Fleur has skied often and she also wore a helmet. On Sunday morning just before eleven she fell heavily on a blue slope and after that fall she slid through and ended up on a nearby competition slope. “Because of her fall, she bumped into something and she was seriously injured,” George knows.

“It’s a horrible drama.”

When care providers arrived at the scene of the accident, Fleur was unconscious. She was taken to a hospital in Grenoble, where she died of her injuries. Her body is still being investigated. According to her uncle, it will be released to the family on Tuesday.

“After we heard the news, we immediately left for Franrijk with her father, mother, sister and friend,” says George. “Everyone is doing their best to help the family, but it’s just a horrible drama.” Mayor Evert Weys van Hilvarenbeek also called the Van Fleur family, says her uncle.

“We are all in shock.”

“The students in the group are all members of the Tilburg Student Rowing Association Vidar,” says chairman Nayoni Latulola. “Fleur was a member of our association and we are all in shock. In consultation with the family, we want to organize a suitable moment to commemorate Fleur as a member of our club. ”

On Monday, the students who were still heard in France will be heard by the police about what exactly happened on the slopes. Later today the group comes together and there is a memorial moment in Val Thorens. And tonight the whole group travels back to the Netherlands.
