FC St. Pauli missed the third victory in the Bundesliga. On Saturday, the promoted team separated 1-1 (1-0) from FC Augsburg. Noakhai Banks (17th minute) with an own goal ensured the guidance of the hosts, Augsburg’s young talent Mert Kömür (83.), equalized late.
The hosts are still unbeaten in the second half of the season and are 21 points. In the table you have seven points ahead of relegation rank 16, which currently occupies 1. FC Heidenheim. Immediately in front of St. Pauli, FC Augsburg is located in 26 points.
Blessin praises his team rip -off
St. Pauli’s coach Alexander Blessin annoyed himself after the game about the late equalization, but took a positive conclusion overall: “In the first half of the season we would probably have lost such games and now we just take the point with”he said in the sports show interview.
In the end, Augsburg’s coach Jess Thorup was also able to be satisfied with the draw with a heavy heart. “Then we take one point, even if we had hoped for more, of course. But sometimes you just have to take this point with you.”
Weak Augsburg without an opportunity
St. Pauli showed away from the start that it acts with a lot of confidence after two league successes. Noah Weißhaupt made his way towards the Augsburg Gate after ten minutes, but was minimally offside. The deserved lead followed seven minutes later. Morgan Guilavogui was sent on the right and found Philipp Treu with the cross Philipp, who banged the ball towards the goal line. Banks’s rescue operation, now the youngest shooter in the Bundesliga history, could no longer prevent the impact.
The hosts continued to put pressure on: Marius Wolf was able to clarify a cross from Guilavogui just before the shooting of Weißhaupt (26th). There was nothing to be seen from Augsburg. The guests concentrated almost exclusively on the defensive tasks until the change of sides – at least that was the case in a quarter of an hour before the break.
FCA comes back late against St. Pauli
The guests from Bavaria came out of the cabin a little better. However, the FCA could not take a dangerous opportunities. Instead, St. Pauli had more train to the goal. Johannes Eggestein was blocked in his attempt to shoot (53.). A sharp cross from right would have landed as a own goal in the FCA goal after around 70 minutes.
Nevertheless, there was a game at a manageable level and without great highlights. In the final phase, Augsburg finally woke up: Substitute Steve Mounier gave it up, then Joker Mert Kömür was on the spot on a flank and equalized for the guests. “I expected the ball to get into the back room“, said the scorer afterwards in the Sportschau interview. “Then I only focused on the ball and hoped that I will meet him first.“
The game was now completely open. The hosts had the best chance when Danel Sinani slipped past a cross in the middle.
