A survey by the Fietsersbond has shown that Zoetermeer has become the best cycling city of large Dutch municipalities. The illuminated paths are especially appreciated.

Zoetermeer won the Bicycle City 2022 prize for large municipalities (more than 80,000 inhabitants) in the Bicycle City 2022 election. Gooise Meren received the prize as a medium-sized municipality, Schiermonnikoog is the winner of the small municipalities.
Three pluses
Zoetermeer emerged as the winner for three reasons. First of all, cyclists appreciate the well-lit paths. They also praise the availability of sufficient bicycle parking spaces. Finally, cyclists react positively to the presence of wide bicycle lanes and paths.
We fight on
The award will be presented to the municipality on Thursday 14 April. Or Zoetermeer also the title Cycling city of the year will be announced on Thursday 2 June 2022 during the National Bicycle Congress. Together with Gooise Meren, Schiermonnikoog and Alphen-Chaam, we will compete for this coveted title.
