National coach Nagelsmann probably has exit clause

Julian Nagelsmann recently extended his contract with the DFB until 2028. However, the working paper should include an exit clause.
Just last week, the German Football Association (DFB) announced the surprising contract extension of national coach Julian Nagelsmann. Now it comes out: Nagelsmann has apparently had a special clause in his contract with the association, which, in the event of a leak in the preliminary round at the World Cup 2026 in the USA, Canada and Mexico, enables him to exit early. The “Sport Bild” reports.
According to the DFB Managing Director Andreas Rettig, the national coach’s running contract until 2028 is geared towards performance. Rettig commented on the contract details and explained: “We do not talk about the content of the contract. The contract is performance -related and fair for both sides in every respect.”
As the “Sport Bild” also reports, Nagelsmann is said to have received a slight increase in salary and are now coming to seven million euros a year. Rettig praised Nagelsmann’s attitude: “The demand for top coaches is significantly higher than the supply. In such a situation, not to put poker or economic issues in the foreground speaks for Julian Nagelsmann.” According to Rettig, the national coach said that he was “in the mood for this task” and did not want to know anything about “other inquiries”.
Before the 2026 World Cup, Nagelsmann and the national team initially have other challenges. In the Nations League, the team meets Italy in the quarter -finals (March 20 and 23). According to the DFB, the tickets for the second leg in Dortmund were sold out within an hour. If the DFB selection is successful, it would do the Nations League final tournament in summer.
