In the Australian Open, the first grand slam tennis tournament of the season, world number 1 women’s singles Aryna Sabalenka reached the semi-finals.
Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka and number 27 seed Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova met in the evening session of the 10th day of the tournament held in Melbourne.
Sabalenka, the champion of the last two years in the tournament, beat her opponent 2-1 with sets ending 6-2, 2-6 and 6-3 in the match that lasted one hour and 53 minutes and reached the semi-finals.
The Belarusian racket earned a ticket to the semi-finals for the third consecutive time at the Australian Open, where she won her 19th consecutive victory.
Sabalenka was matched with the number 11 seed, Spanish Paula Badosa, in the semi-finals.
