Giant slalom at Plan de Corones, Brignone in the lead, Goggia falls

Federica Brignone leads the first heat of the Plan de Corones giant slalom with a time of 56.04, 19 hundredths of a second ahead of Lara Gut-behrami and 27 over Sara Hector. Sofia Goggia, however, was already out, having fallen immediately after the first intermediate, where she was 4 cents behind Brignone. However, there were no consequences for the Italian skier, who immediately got up. Marta Bassino did not leave, due to the “prolongation of a flu condition”, as explained in a short note from the Federation. The second heat is scheduled for 1.30pm.

“I made a stupid mistake – commented Sofia Goggia -: I went straight onto a hill and slipped away. I’m sorry because I was fine, I started off full force. I threw away a wonderful opportunity”. Satisfied but cautious Federica Brignone: “There are many of us all close, it will be a tough second heat. It’s difficult to make a difference. I slept a little in the first part, in the second I felt a little loose.”
