Robert Jelle Brouwer, who served on the Central Drenthe municipal council on behalf of the CDA for twelve years, died on Thursday at the age of 55. His family made this known.

Brouwer had to resign from his council work in October last year due to a serious illness. At the end of November, the Westerborker was surprised by mayor Jan Zwiers with a royal award. Zwiers appointed him a Member of the Order of Orange Nassau for his efforts in the municipality of Midden-Drenthe.

In 2006, Brouwer became active for the CDA. Six years later he took a seat on the municipal council on behalf of his party and became a member of the Spatial Planning and Green Committee. He was also chairman of the confidential committee.

According to Mayor Zwiers, Brouwer’s passion for politics was great, as he said when he knighted the Westerborker. “You got that from your father, who was active in the municipal council in Bolsward.”

The CDA in Midden-Drenthe praises Brouwer’s passion for the topics he covered in the council. “His declining health did not stop him from staying involved for as long as he could.”
