A branch of home furnishings store Seats and Sofas on Tenierslaan in Eindhoven escaped a major fire on Monday evening. A roofer who had been working on the roof of the store forgot to turn off one of the burners on the roof at the end of his work day. Thanks to an observant local resident who saw flames, the fire fizzled out.
A roofing company was working on the roof of the home improvement store on Monday. At the end of the working day, all the employees left, but one of the men forgot to turn off a burner.
Police and fire brigade present in large numbers
A little later, a local resident suddenly saw flames on the roof from an apartment. They stood out even more now because it was dark. The local resident immediately called the emergency services and the fire brigade responded with several fire engines and an aerial platform. The police were also present with a lot of officers to evacuate the storefront, if necessary.
When the fire brigade arrived on the roof with the aerial platform, they also saw the flames. But the roof was not on fire. It turned out to be a burner, the flame of which was still on and the gas line to the gas bottle was still open.
The fire brigade extinguished the fire and managed to prevent worse.
