It’s a sad sight. On the corner of Hertzogstraat there is now only a damaged pedestal with some debris. The bronze statue ‘For the Wind’ disappeared without a trace last night. There is no trace of the work of art, which had adorned the street since 1999.
Second theft this month
It is the second time in a short time that a statue in Den Helder has disappeared. On January 7, the ‘Pinguïn’ statue disappeared from Keizerstraat. The municipality filed a report at the time and warned the national network of the Metal Recycling Federation. Councilor Fotigui Camara then also called on witnesses to come forward.
‘Voor de Wind’ was presented to the municipality in 1999 donated by a bailiff as a farewell gift. The police are investigating the case.
