FC Schalke 04 started the second half of the season in the 2nd Bundesliga with a goalless draw at Eintracht Braunschweig. Former coach Peter Neururer sees the result as a missed opportunity.

FC Schalke 04 unfortunately missed the “step to possibly get into the realm of dreams,” Peter Neururer analyzed the 0-0 draw against Eintracht Braunschweig in his column for the “wettfreunde.net” portal. The Royal Blues even had the advantage from the 67th minute onwards.

The division of points was “actually not a bad result at all, actually less good for Braunschweig than for Schalke,” said Neururer, recalling the table constellation in the 2nd Bundesliga. The Revierklub (21 points) ranks 13th, seven points ahead of the relegation zone, Eintracht Braunschweig (17) is second to last.

“But Schalke 04 is incredibly ambitious. Some people were already dreaming after the last few games. By the way, Schalke 04 has been unbeaten in four games, but after the last few games they were already dreaming of possibly being able to attack at the top again. That’s just postponed,” said Neururer.

Trend-setting home game for FC Schalke 04

The long-time coach also looked ahead: “Next weekend, Nuremberg, who won against Karlsruhe, are coming to Schalke. Friendly meeting, but for very, very important points.”

Head coach Miroslav Klose’s club is eleventh with 25 points after the first 18 matchdays. The Königslauen could get on top of 1. FC Nürnberg with a home win in a direct duel (Saturday, 1 p.m. in the live ticker at sport.de).

Schalke’s gap to the promotion places is now ten points. Hamburger SV, 1. FC Magdeburg and 1. FC Köln currently have 31 points each.
