King’s Commissioner Jetta Klijnsma has a chance to win the title of Best Local Administrator of 2024. 67-year-old Klijnsma is one of the thirteen nominees.
The most contenders for the title are currently mayor (5). The other candidates are alderman (3), king’s commissioner (3), deputy (1) or dike mayor (1). Among them, for example, Jaap Velema, mayor of Westerwolde and Femke Halsema, mayor of Amsterdam.
Klijnsma is serving his last term as King’s Commissioner. The former PvdA state secretary was installed in the Drenthe provincial government building on December 1, 2017. She succeeded Jozias van Aartsen, who had temporarily taken on the role after Jacques Tichelaar resigned due to an integrity issue.
The ‘best local manager’ election has two other categories, ‘Best young manager’ and ‘Best manager of a small municipality’. Anno Wietze Hiemstra is a contender for the latter title. The mayor of Aa en Hunze is a contender together with Teun Heldens (mayor of Heeze-Leende) and Jef Kleijnen (alderman of Valkenburg aan de Geul).
Starting today, you can vote for nominees for all categories. Voting closes on Monday, January 27. The announcement will be on Wednesday, February 5, during the Best Director event in Amersfoort.
