“If I sense that something is wrong, I will protect myself,” said the actress.
Bill Murray is not off the hook. At least not according to Lucy Liu. The actress was asked in an interview how she now feels about the fact that she publicly denounced Murray a few years ago for allegedly misbehaving on the set of “Charlie’s Angels.” The 56-year-old makes it clear: She stands by her outcalling.
“Inexcusable and unacceptable”
It was in 2021 when Lucy Liu revealed on the “Asian Enough” podcast that she was “hurled with insults” by Bill Murray while filming “Charlie’s Angels” (2000) when it was frustrating due to a change in scene.
“I couldn’t believe that his comments could be directed against me, because what do I have to do with anything really important at this point,” said the actress in an interview. Liu further explained, “I said, ‘I’m so sorry. Are you talking to me?’ And he obviously did, because then it became a personal communication”. Liu called Murray’s language at the time “inexcusable and unacceptable.”
She felt treated unfairly
Asked years later by The Guardian about the outcalling of Murray’s alleged misstep, the actress now said: “I really didn’t think about it. I would have done that in any situation. I think that if I sense something is wrong, I will protect myself. It’s an innate thing you do when you feel like there’s injustice, and that’s how I always feel.”
But even in this interview, Lucy Liu did not reveal what exactly Bill Murray had said. He himself has not yet commented on the alleged incident and the rest of the “Charlie’s Angels” ensemble is also keeping quiet.
Not the only accusation against Murray
In April 2022, complaints were also made public that the “Ghostbusters” actor had exhibited “inappropriate behavior” on the set of “Being Mortal”. According to Murray, it was purely a “difference of opinion”. However, in October 2022, various media outlets reported that Bill Murray allegedly kissed a female worker on set “on the body and on the mouth” while they were wearing masks.
However, the case was dropped in return for a payment of $100,000. Around the same time, Geena Davis revealed in her memoir “Dying of Politeness” that Bill Murray allegedly molested her with a massage device while she was working on “Quick Change” (1990).
