During the night of Saturday 10 to Sunday 11 August 2024 on the E403 in Ruddervoorde, the resident of Torhout crashed into the back of the car of a family from Handzame at high speed. A 29-year-old man, a 30-year-old woman and their 8-year-old daughter did not survive the blow.
The investigation showed that the Torhout resident was not only driving much too fast, but also had much more alcohol than permitted in his blood. After questioning, he was arrested by the Bruges investigating judge on suspicion of accidental killing, driving under the influence and a series of traffic offences. In the meantime, it turned out that he had already racked up a total of fourteen convictions for traffic offences.
