The father of a Ukrainian competing in Beijing is in Russian possession

Anastasiia Laletina received nasty news from her homeland among the Paralympics.

Ukrainian 19-year-old Anastasiia Laletina has competed in the ongoing Beijing Paralympics.

However, Laletina withdrew from the biathlon competition after receiving very nasty news from her native Ukraine, which is the target of hostilities between Russia and Belarus.

Laletina was told that the father defending Ukraine in the war had been arrested by Russian forces.

A spokesman for the Ukrainian Paralympic team confirmed the news to Reuters news agency.

Laletina is still in the race village of Zhangjiakou in Beijing. He is scheduled to fly with the rest of the team to Poland after the race ends.

There was uncertainty about the participation of the Ukrainian team before the Paralympics, but the whole team got on the road as planned.

Just before the start of the Games, the International Paralympic Committee announced that Russian and Belarusian athletes would not be allowed to compete in Beijing.
