American actress Pamela Anderson has said she was mistaken for a member of country band Dixie Chicks on a plane and attacked because of it.

Guest on “Happy Sad Confused”

On December 6th, Josh Horowitz, host of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, released a new episode. His guest stars: Canadian actress Pamela Anderson along with director Gia Coppola. In the 52 minutes, Coppola and Anderson talk, among other things, about their “The Last Showgirl” and how this film led to a career revival for Anderson.

The “Baywatch” icon also talks about an incident on an airplane in the podcast. “This one time I was on a flight and this guy came up to me and said, ‘Do you know what this country has done for you?'” Anderson recalls. “And I was just like, ‘Oh, my God. What have I done?'”

The stranger had been staring at Anderson the entire flight. The situation got so bad that the man even tried to physically attack the actress. A flight attendant had to restrain the passenger.

“He thought I was a Dixie Chick,” Anderson continues. “Remember that whole Dixie Chick thing? I was almost killed on a plane.”

The 2003 Dixie Chicks controversy

With the “Dixie Chick thing,” Anderson is referring to the harsh criticism from conservatives that the Chicks – formerly known as the Dixie Chicks – received when lead singer Natalie Maines publicly criticized then-sitting President George W. Bush for invading the United States denounced Iraq.

At a concert at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire Theater in London, Maines told the audience that the band would not support the president’s invasion. She upped the ante by saying she was ashamed that Bush was also from Texas. Conservatives were shocked by these statements, which sparked a strong backlash in the United States.
