Madrid (AP) – Paris Saint-Germain can probably rely on the recently injured football world champion Kylian Mbappé in the Champions League game at Real Madrid.
“He’s fine,” said coach Mauricio Pochettino at a press conference. The use of the star striker in the round of 16 second leg on Wednesday (9:00 p.m.) was questionable after he was hit on the left foot in training on Monday. “He was in pain after a kick and screamed in pain, but a few hours later he was better and calmed down. He could walk normally again,” said the coach.
The club then announced that the first examinations had been reassuring and that he should have another medical check 24 hours later. The 23-year-old was part of PSG’s 24-man squad, who flew to Madrid and completed final training in the evening.
The sovereign leaders of the French championship won the round of 16 first leg 1-0 thanks to a goal by Mbappé in the fourth minute of added time. The France international has scored 24 goals and provided 17 assists in all competitions this season. His contract with PSG expires at the end of this season, Real Madrid are under discussion as a possible new employer.
