Although his team lost to FC Barcelona, Israel Garcia will remember the evening. He proposed to his girlfriend.
There is a saying: bad luck in games, good luck in love. This is definitely the case for Israel Garcia from the Spanish fourth division club UD Barbastro. In the cup his team lost 0:4 against FC Barcelona. Nevertheless, the footballer wanted to use the stage for an unforgettable moment – and proposed to his girlfriend on the sidelines after the game against Hansi Flick’s team.
Videos circulating on social media show Garcia running to his girlfriend after the final whistle. He then takes her to him and then kneels down in front of her to ask her the question of all questions. His girlfriend seems overwhelmed but happy and says: Yes.
Afterwards they both pose for the photographers and she proudly holds her ring up to the camera. In her other hand she holds flowers that she received.
In terms of sport, the game went as expected: the Spanish fourth division team was unable to counter record winner Barça. Eric Garcia gave coach Hansi Flick’s team the lead in the 21st minute before Robert Lewandowski followed up with a header (31′). Shortly after the break, the Polish attacker increased the score to 3-0 with his second goal (47th). The final point was set by Pablo Torre, who took advantage of a mistake by Barbastro’s goalkeeper Arnau Fabrega (56th).
