The director pays tribute to himself with an ironic T-shirt.
George Lucas is currently on vacation in the Caribbean in St. Barts and presented his casual look in a bright red T-shirt with a Ferrari Stormtrooper print.
Stormtroopers in a pit stop
The “Star Wars” creator is probably still a big fan of his own invention. So he now appeared in a piece of clothing that was probably unique in the world. Printed on the front: A Formula 1 racing car and a Stormtrooper in Ferarri overalls. He also wore white trousers and a white bucket hat – George Lucas’ homage to himself.
Just a peripheral figure
As Disney’s “Star Wars” franchise continues to expand, the creator no longer has anything to say. The 80-year-old sold his production company Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012 for a total of more than four billion US dollars. Since then, spin-offs and sequels have been developed without him. Lucas shows up on set every now and then, but he no longer has any influence on the story. Ergo: He is condemned to watch while a new generation continues to spin his story.
However, he hasn’t always been really enthusiastic about the sequels that have been produced since then. “These are my children. I love them, I created them, I am very intimate with them and I sold them to the white slave owners […]” he said in a 2015 interview with PBS about “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” This statement sparked criticism, prompting Lucas to publicly apologize and clarify via ABC that he had used a “very inappropriate comparison”.
“I believe this philosophy will stand the test of time.”
In 2021, the sci-fi mogul spoke again about the new productions during a virtual question and answer session. George Lucas, along with his wife Mellody Hobson, answered questions from the children of the East Harlem School At Exodus House. A student asked him how the world in “Star Wars” had changed since the first film.
George Lucas replied: “I don’t know, unfortunately, because I’ve lost control of ‘Star Wars.’ Everything is going in a completely different direction than I planned. But the first six are my films, they reflect my philosophy. I believe this philosophy will stand the test of time. It is based on history, on worldview and many other things.”
The director will ensure that his philosophy will survive with merchandise in signal colors on vacation. At least he doesn’t seem to have lost his enthusiasm for his characters yet.
