Robbie Williams has revealed details about his upcoming album in an interview, confirming rumors of a collaboration with Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi. The song “Rocket” will be part of the new LP, which is currently in production.
Robbie, the (hard) rock DJ
Robbie Williams revealed in an interview with “NME” that ex-Deep Purple bassist Glenn Hughes can also be heard on the track. “I wanted to create the album that I would have made if I had left Take That today, with the knowledge that I have now,” Williams said. “’Rocket’ is exactly right.”
About working with the rock musicians, he added: “This one [Track] consists of massive guitars, as you can imagine. He’s full of adrenaline and gets down to business. This is my favorite song from my new album – which I just announced!”
When asked if he would reveal any more details about the record, Williams joked: “I don’t know. Let’s see how well the film does.” The semi-autobiographical biopic “Better Man,” directed and written by Michael Gracey (“The Greatest Showman”), was released in Germany on January 2nd.
“It’s primarily a guitar record”
There has been speculation about a new album for some time. In September, the artist told fans that a new LP was on the way. His 13th studio effort and his first full-length since 2019’s The Christmas Present – excluding the soundtrack to Better Man. An official release date is not yet known.
Robbie Williams’ drummer and musical director Karl Brazil also recently spoke about the new record on the Percussion Discussion podcast and named another guest star. “There are some great features on this record. “Gaz Coombes can be heard on it – it’s primarily a guitar record,” said the drummer, revealing the collaboration with the Supergrass singer. “It’s kind of a throwback to his old sound from the ’90s, but also mixed with a little bit of modern pop. Let’s face it, he can do whatever he wants, right?”
