Ice hockey player Jouko Öystilä died on Christmas Day aged 72. About Öystilä’s death was the first to report on Keski-Uusimaa.

Öystilä died at home in Tuusula Jokela.

Playing as a defender, Öystilä played 87 matches in the Finland A national team from 1971 to 1975. He represented Finland in five World Championships. In addition, he was named as the home alternate of the 1972 Olympic team.

In his career as a player, Öystilä won the Finnish championship in Jokers in 1973.

Öystilä had a long and handsome career abroad. In West Germany, he celebrated the championship in 1977. The previous year, he had gone to play a few matches in TPS. The people of Turku won the Finnish championship in the spring.

After her playing career, Öystilä was the head coach of the Finnish women’s national team from 1990 to 1993. Under his leadership, Finland won two European championships and two World Championship bronze medals.
