According to witnesses, several motorists suddenly had to slam on the brakes due to a traffic jam heading towards the German border. One motorist saw this too late, after which he collided with the car in front and the car caught fire.
The highway towards Germany was completely closed between Zwartemeer and the German border. All occupants were able to get out of the vehicle in time. No one was injured.
