The powertrain of the new Phev variants is strongly related to that of the variants full hybrid. The heat enginethat is, a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated inline four-cylinder, the e-Cvt transmission and the two electric motorsone for each axis, are practically the same, while the 51 Ah lithium battery is significantly larger than the 5 Ah one of the Hev versions. And this was done to guarantee both of them an autonomy in 100% electric mode up to 73km on the Wltp cycle. Toyota claims that this new package can achieve a peak power of 306 HP, and at the same time guarantee consumption in the order of 16.7 km/l. With fast charging, the battery goes from 0 to 80% in 38 minutes.

The generous on-board batteries of the Alphard and Vellfire in the Phev version can also power other devices thanks to the function vehicle-to-loadcapable of supporting up to 1,500 kW of power. Anyway, with the optional device vehicle-to-home, they can even act as an electricity generator for an entire house. About that Toyota in fact, it specifies that, assuming a fully charged battery, full of petrol and an average daily consumption of 10 kWh, the system can provide sufficient electricity for over 5 days. Which would certainly be useful in case of blackout or similar emergencies.

And for this reason, not surprisingly, they are also the most expensive ones. In Japan, Toyota will offer them respectively at 10.65 million yen (just over 65 thousand euros at current exchange rates) and 10.85 million yen (approx 66,500 euros).
