In the first season, a bunch of debt-ridden people were invited to play life-threatening games. The prize was a hefty sum of money.
In its release year, the series became Netflix’s most popular series of all time. Since then, the ranking of the series has decreased with new hits. Currently, the most popular series on Netflix is Wednesday’s the first season.
Now Squid Game will get a second season on Netflix on December 26.

The shocking series made headlines around the world when children became interested in it. For example, in the United States and England, there was news about children who have started copying the games seen in the series.
The series also spawned a global social challenge. In line with the third episode of the series, fans started making their own dalgona sweets, i.e. honeycomb candies. Then the fans scratched designs on the sweets, like in the game seen in the episode. The candy was not allowed to break from being scratched.
Lee Jung-jae made Emmy history in the fall of 2022. He won the Emmy Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series. He was the first actor appearing in a non-English language series to win an Emmy.
