He had undergone surgery in September 2024 for stomach cancer. Former partner of Brochard and Virenque, in 1998 he was involved in the Festina doping case

Former French cyclist Pascal Hervé, who wore the pink jersey in the 1996 Giro before being implicated in the Festina doping scandal, has died at the age of 60. This was announced by the French cyclists union (UNCP). The circumstances of his death were not specified, but last September Hervé revealed that he had undergone surgery mid-year for a “stomach tumor, with a complete removal of the stomach itself”.

“goodbye herve”

“Pascal was an emblematic figure and an essential voice in our sport – wrote the UNCP on X – The great cycling family is in mourning. The cycling family is in mourning”. The announcement of his death sparked reactions on social networks from Hervé’s former teammates. “Pascal, my friend, I am shocked,” wrote 1997 world champion Laurent Brochard, who raced with Hervé in the Festina, on social media. “You left on Christmas night, my friend, you were so rock’n’roll until the end… I have so many memories, so many beautiful moments, we had so many plans for the future… I have no words. You c ‘you were always, always a word, even in difficult times. I love you and I hug you my friend, we will see you again, I will miss you,’ added Brochard. World amateur champion, Pascal Hervé ended his career at 37 after testing positive at the 2001 Giro d’Italia, three years after being suspended for two months for his involvement in the Festina affair at the 1998 Tour de France, particularly alongside Richard Virenque, of whom he had been a faithful wingman for many years.
