A ban threatens
Tiktok is scheduled to be banned in the United States starting January 19, 2025, if its US operations are still owned by China’s Bytedance at that time. The possible ban is based on concerns about US national security and the law passed in April.
According to US intelligence officials, China can use Tiktok for espionage. China has denied the allegations.
Bytedance considers the law unconstitutional. Earlier in December, the Supreme Court ruled that the law can be kept in force. The ban is scheduled to be heard next in the US Supreme Court on January 10.
Donald Trump will take office on January 20, 2025.
