They came from 9 tournaments won consecutively, Coello and Tapia. An undisputed dominance, with the opponents already engaged in a series of team shuffles, in order to find some solution to interrupt this hegemony. The tenth seal seemed to be a done deal, also because in the final at the Palau Sant Jordi Jon Sanz and Coki Nieto showed up, instead of the usual “Chingalan”. First set closed by the numbers one with a comfortable 6-4, second set that flows away on the wave of a break, before arriving at 5-4 40-15 for the favourites. Two match points that Tapia, today by far the strongest player in the world, mysteriously wasted, making a series of inexplicable errors from then on. Padel doesn’t even allow phenomena to unplug, because the games turn upside down in an instant. From there, in fact, the final takes a completely different turn: Sanz-Nieto win the second set 7-5 and run away in the third, Coello also goes haywire and the third ends 6-3 for the least predictable winners in memory to the Finals.

Fewer cataclysms in the women’s final: this time Claudia Fernandez and Gemma Triay were unable to worry the number ones in the Fip ranking. The somewhat slow start of Ari Sanchez – Catalan and home favorite – initially gives a small advantage to Gemma and Claudia, but it doesn’t last long: Josemaria-Sanchez quickly climb back up, get the decisive break in the eighth game and close 6-3 the first set. Gemma shows signs of tiredness, Paula begins to clearly prevail in the duel with Fernandez on the right side of the court: the number ones also escape in the second set at 4-2 and then close easily with another 6-3, led by an Ari Sanchez constantly on the rise.
